What do bed bugs look like

Adults are small, brownish insects, just under a ¼” long and are relatively flat. They are nearly as wide as they are long, and oval in shape. Immature bed bugs (nymphs) resemble the adults but are much smaller and lighter in color. Newly hatched nymphs are translucent and are no bigger than a pinhead (1 mm).

Why should I be concerned with Bed Bugs?

Although bed bugs have never been proven to transmit diseases they are a nuisance and if left untreated can explode in population making elimination a very challenging and costly task. Their bites leave red welts that itch and can cause distress because they are biting while you are sleeping.

How will I know if I have bed bugs?

Bed bug infestations can be detected by the homeowner a few different ways

  • You will start to notice bites showing up after sleeping. They typically will be in rows or clusters
  • Spotting will show up on sheets, mattresses, or box springs. This is the fecal material from the bed bug. It will be a black spot or spots that will run when wiped with a damp cloth
  • You may find cast skins or eggs in the cracks ad crevices of the bed frame or box springs or mattress. These are the shed bed bug skins as they molt and reach maturity. The eggs are approximately the size of large salt granules
  • Adults are large enough to see with the naked eye. They are about the size of a tick or apple seed. They tend to hide in the folds of the mattress or box springs or within a couple of feet of the location you are sleeping which makes detection difficult.

If I think I have an infestation, what should I do?

Immediately contact Pesky Critters so we can come out and do an inspection to verify that you have or don’t have bed bugs. Do not attempt to self-treat as this may just scatter them through the home and make treatment by a pest professional harder and more costly. Do not remove furniture or throw away furniture until we have done the inspection.  This may spread the bedbugs through the home as well.

How does Pesky Critters Deal with Bed Bug Infestations?

Bed bugs are incredibly difficult to eliminate without the help of a pest professional. We at Pesky Critters take great pride in our ability to eliminate bed bug infestations quickly and with NO Prep required by us! We use several different tactics when dealing with bed bugs. Steam, Chemical application, Encasements, dust, and interception devices allow us to wipe out infestations and give you back your home bed bug free.

What do you mean No Prep?

Other pest control companies require you to do a laundry list of preparations before the initial treatment. This includes bagging and laundering all clothes and linens, emptying bookshelves, moving entertainment centers, etc. This requires hours if not days of work before you even get your house treated the first time.

Using our No Prep method it allows us to come treat your home and start crashing the bed bug population with minimal effort on your part. We just ask that you clean up your home so we can freely move from room to room. On our follow up treatments if we need you to clean out a specific area so we can treat it more thoroughly we will let you know.

How can I prevent Bed Bugs in the future?

Be aware when purchasing second hand furniture that there is a higher risk of bringing home bed bugs. When traveling inspect your bed for signs of bed bugs. Ask us about our Bed Bug Protection Package that can be added onto Quarterly Pest Control to help protect you from infesting your own home.
